Karamo Brown

Two-time Primetime Emmy winner and bestselling author Karamo Brown is a multifaceted tastemaker driving national conversations on wellness, identity, and self-acceptance. Best known for his role as the Culture Expert on Netflix’s Queer Eye and as the host of the nationally syndicated daytime talk show Karamo, he has built a career at the intersection of culture, empathy, and personal growth.

Karamo stepped into the public eye in 2004 when he appeared on MTV's reality show The Real World as the first openly-gay Black American to be cast on reality TV. Since then, Karamo has brought his infectious energy and innate empathy to screens across the world, serving as a host for various shows including the OWN show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, Huffington Post Live, and MTV's Are You The One: Second Chances, before launching his own hit show.

At the core of Karamo’s work is a deeply personal ethos shaped by his own journey toward self-acceptance. His memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope, chronicles the experiences that have defined him—as a Black, gay man, a son of immigrants, a person of faith, and a single father—reflecting his belief that growth begins with understanding and embracing who you are. His best-selling children's book, I Am Perfectly Designed is an empowering mantra for kids and adults to embrace authenticity and was followed by the sequel I Am Okay to Feel – both made exponentially more meaningful by Karamo’s collaborator on the projects, his son, Jason "Rachel” Brown.

Karamo has also been a consistent and visible advocate for LGBTQIA+ and African American communities, using his platform to challenge stigma and expand conversations around equity, belonging, and mental health. These efforts have included direct work with legislators, the Obama Foundation, and the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, earning him widespread recognition, including the 2018 Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award, as well as GLAAD Media Awards, Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards, and NAACP Image Award nominations.

At the heart of everything Karamo does is a belief in holistic wellness. Known for championing the idea of “protecting your peace,” he speaks openly about his sobriety and fitness journey as integral to personal growth. By emphasizing the connection between mental, emotional, and physical well-being, Karamo encourages others to confront challenges with intention, resilience, and self-compassion.
